The Global food Crisis (Topic Proposal)

Families across the world cannot provide their children or themselves with an adequate amount of food; so they are left going hungry. Many people are oblivious at the notion that there is a food crisis. Since I found this to be true by just asking people at school and around my neighborhood; I decided to research the global food crisis that our nation and many other nations our under at this moment. I think a light needs to be shined on the situation rather a bright light or just a diming flame.

I want to focus my research on the factors that put us in this global food crisis. To inform everyone who reads it about the food crisis and things we can do to help our nation and others. We as a society should want to know what our government is going to do about individual families that are starving because of this. Common things such as wheat, corn, and rice have been rising steadily for about 4 years. Simply the world has been consuming more food then the world has been producing. 100 million people have been driven into poverty over the last past decade.

When doing the research on the global food crisis I think that one of the problems that will cause a negative impact on my paper would have to be coming across the same information in each article I read. I will then be left with the same inforamtion and less of others so I would have to research more information about the topic then otherwise would be necessary.

Our nation and many others are in an economic downfall but to have a food crisis at the same time is not helpful at all. Something has to be done so that families will not have to go without feeding their children or themselves. These downfalls that are hitting each nation need to come to an end. Rather the end is near or not something has to happen, and there is only so much that one person can do. Let’s help each other so that when the hard times hit there will be someone there to steady you.

Argumentive Essay "Does an Electric Vehicles Really Help the Environment?"

There are few people who make the decision to switch to an electrical vehicle and when they do they are left feeling like they are helping the environment. But how will they feel when they know that there is almost as much emissions being admitted in the air to produce an electric car as a fuel vehicle. Will more people choose to switch to what seems to be a more environment friendly vehicle or just choose to get a fuel efficient vehicle ? A fuel efficient vehicle will do me fine until improvements are made with an electric car.

Electric cars are suppose to be healthy for our environment than a normal gas car is, but when compared to fuel efficient vehicles we have about the same chemicals being released in the air. When a car that is not fuel efficient, such a Hummar is compared to the electric vehicle; then we can say that an electric car is better for the environment. Even though with a fuel vehicle the emissions are emitted from the tailpipe when traveling. In an Electric Car emissions do not come from the tailpipe instead these emissions are admitted indirectly to our environment.

An electric vehicle uses a battery, but for the battery to even been produced is a very hard process and uses a lot of electricity and resources. The vehicle battery needs to be charged using electricity which after all comes from coal. Because, 49.9 percent of our nations electricity is generated by the burning of coal, and in some states the percent is exceptionally high. How can a electric vehicles be safer for our environment when more coal is being burned that emits CO2 into the environment and produces other types of green house gases also. CO2 is Carbon Dioxide which is a type of greenhouse gas that is emitted by cars and power plants, this has been identified as a major cause of Global Warming. A battery for an electric vehicle has to charge four to six hours and that is electricity that is being poured into the battery meaning that more coal has too be burned to produce this electricity. Now having to charge the battery this long alone creates a lot of CO2. But with a fuel efficient vehicle we have CO2 being admitted in to the air also but you can do more thing with this vehicle and the amount of CO2 being admitted into the air will not change, unless a more fuel efficient vehicle is created.

In an electric car the battery uses only seventy percent to move the car and keep other things working in the vehicle. The other thirty percent is not used at all because of problems with the battery. There is not only a problem with the battery of an electric car but also the disposal or recycling of the battery. It cost a large amount of money to recycle the battery, and even then how exactly is the battery being recycled.

The batteries do not go to recycling as soon as I would hope they would instead they go through the process of reusing any parts of the battery as possible and the batteries are not made of any toxic materials. The batteries first go through a hammer mill that pounds them into what looks and seems almost like pulp the elements are then separated and reused. While the battery may be saving gasoline, that does not deny the fact that CO2 is being admitted into the environment through the traveling process, plants electricity and the charging of the battery.

The Tassel Roadster is an electric car that can only travel one hundred and fifty miles per charge. It takes five hours to charge the battery and even then it only travel five hundred and fifty miles. While this vehicle is an electric car it really dose not seem as practical in the real world. Consider situations in which you forget to charge your car, the expense on your electric bill, and the fact that you more then likely have to replace this expensive battery. Then you are left with a vehicle that is not reliable all the time and cannot be used for actually traveling. In the long run you have wasted your money to purchase something that would help the environment but in turn made things worse for your everyday life.

An electric vehicle is not all its cracked up to be, there are problems that need to come to an end before I will decide to purchase an electric vehicle. Until that time comes I will just stick to my fuel efficient vehicle that emits about the same amount of CO2 into the environment as the making and processing of an electric car. I can’t help but see that many people are at a halt when trying to decide rather to buy an electric car. But to invest that kind of money in a vehicle that is not helping, the planet and is not helping you is a waste.

Reading Response for "You Are What You Eat"

Brillat-Savarin's famous statement: "Tell me what you eat, and I shall tell you what you are," shocks me in so many ways. Thinking about this statement I find it really hard to understand how he can tell me what I am by what I eat. If I am what I eat then why can't I grow. This may have been said to be a joke, or it could have been said to work a nerve. This statement in so many ways can be found to be offensive rather it is meant to be this way or not. So I even try to just ignore this statement all together, but I would still have a problem with it in the back of my mind.
If I am what I eat; then half the day I eat nothing and the other half I eat. When I choose to eat, I choose to eat a wide range of things so how can what I eat be pulled into one word that can describe me. So today I ate an 8oz lite yogurt, for lunch nothing, for dinner a salad and a grilled piece of fish. What am I? Since you can tell me what I am? You are what you eat. To say that you are what you eat is really unrealistic because people eat different things on a daily basis, if I am what I eat I would change everyday.
I think that the statement, "tell me what you eat and I shall tell you what you are," is not possible. Rather the statement in some ways is to say that you are unhealthy if you eat unhealthy, or to say that you are healthy if you eat healthy, even these statements have a line that has to be cross before either of these is correct. But these statements cannot be said about any particular person because it is not true. Because if you eat unhealthy then exercise and right lifestyle you can still be healthy.
"Tell me what you eat, and I shall tell you what you are," seems wrong and sounds wrong. Anyone can tell you what they think you are, but only you know who you are and that's what matters.

Composing a Video of my Park Adventure...

I was trying to compose a video of the time I went to the park. I wanted it to be fun and informative at the same time with a light beat in the background. Looking at the screenshot of what I was doing it looks like a lot of work needs to be done. It seems like some more pictures and videos of the parkwill be needed and it would need to organize it in a better and more cohesive way so that it can then flow better. So much work to do and so little time. Looking at the picture it appears as if i have barely did anything to this project, when I have been working on it for hours. But I know when putting more then one thing together in a digital space things do look bunshed together making your work look and seem as if nothing has been done. Maybe if digital composing was to improve in the since of space and consistency then composing a video, a documentary, and a essay can be done faster and more effectively.
