There are few people who make the decision to switch to an electrical vehicle and when they do they are left feeling like they are helping the environment. But how will they feel when they know that there is almost as much emissions being admitted in the air to produce an electric car as a fuel vehicle. Will more people choose to switch to what seems to be a more environment friendly vehicle or just choose to get a fuel efficient vehicle ? A fuel efficient vehicle will do me fine until improvements are made with an electric car.
Electric cars are suppose to be healthy for our environment than a normal gas car is, but when compared to fuel efficient vehicles we have about the same chemicals being released in the air. When a car that is not fuel efficient, such a Hummar is compared to the electric vehicle; then we can say that an electric car is better for the environment. Even though with a fuel vehicle the emissions are emitted from the tailpipe when traveling. In an Electric Car emissions do not come from the tailpipe instead these emissions are admitted indirectly to our environment.
An electric vehicle uses a battery, but for the battery to even been produced is a very hard process and uses a lot of electricity and resources. The vehicle battery needs to be charged using electricity which after all comes from coal. Because, 49.9 percent of our nations electricity is generated by the burning of coal, and in some states the percent is exceptionally high. How can a electric vehicles be safer for our environment when more coal is being burned that emits CO2 into the environment and produces other types of green house gases also. CO2 is Carbon Dioxide which is a type of greenhouse gas that is emitted by cars and power plants, this has been identified as a major cause of Global Warming. A battery for an electric vehicle has to charge four to six hours and that is electricity that is being poured into the battery meaning that more coal has too be burned to produce this electricity. Now having to charge the battery this long alone creates a lot of CO2. But with a fuel efficient vehicle we have CO2 being admitted in to the air also but you can do more thing with this vehicle and the amount of CO2 being admitted into the air will not change, unless a more fuel efficient vehicle is created.
In an electric car the battery uses only seventy percent to move the car and keep other things working in the vehicle. The other thirty percent is not used at all because of problems with the battery. There is not only a problem with the battery of an electric car but also the disposal or recycling of the battery. It cost a large amount of money to recycle the battery, and even then how exactly is the battery being recycled.
The batteries do not go to recycling as soon as I would hope they would instead they go through the process of reusing any parts of the battery as possible and the batteries are not made of any toxic materials. The batteries first go through a hammer mill that pounds them into what looks and seems almost like pulp the elements are then separated and reused. While the battery may be saving gasoline, that does not deny the fact that CO2 is being admitted into the environment through the traveling process, plants electricity and the charging of the battery.
The Tassel Roadster is an electric car that can only travel one hundred and fifty miles per charge. It takes five hours to charge the battery and even then it only travel five hundred and fifty miles. While this vehicle is an electric car it really dose not seem as practical in the real world. Consider situations in which you forget to charge your car, the expense on your electric bill, and the fact that you more then likely have to replace this expensive battery. Then you are left with a vehicle that is not reliable all the time and cannot be used for actually traveling. In the long run you have wasted your money to purchase something that would help the environment but in turn made things worse for your everyday life.
An electric vehicle is not all its cracked up to be, there are problems that need to come to an end before I will decide to purchase an electric vehicle. Until that time comes I will just stick to my fuel efficient vehicle that emits about the same amount of CO2 into the environment as the making and processing of an electric car. I can’t help but see that many people are at a halt when trying to decide rather to buy an electric car. But to invest that kind of money in a vehicle that is not helping, the planet and is not helping you is a waste.
